Military users: British Army and US Army Air Corps      177th FA Group
 

Location: Cwt-y-Gollen alongside the A40 trunk road

Period of operation: 1943/5 only?
 

Runways: ‘All over’ small grass meadow?
 

NOTES: Used by  British Army AOP Austers and the US Army 177th FA Group, presumably with Piper L-4s?

 



ABERGAVENNY: Military airstrip
 

Military user: US Army Air Corps
 

Location: Unknown?

Period of operation: Presumably 1943/45 only?
 

NOTES: Apparently two strips used for visits to the 279th Station hospital.

 

 

ABERGAVENNY GOLF COURSE: Military airstrip
 

Military user: USAFA Adderbury, Oxon      SP47.35

US Army 58th & 87 Armd. FA Bns (pick the bones out of this!)
 

Location: Presumably known?

Period of operation: 1943/45 only?
 

NOTES: Armd FA Bns = Armoured Field Artillery Battalions



 

ABERGAVENNY: Private airstrip
 

Location: 2nm E of Abergavenny, presumably near to Croes Hywel and N of the B4233

Period of operation: Probably 1970s, certainly early 2000s
 

Runway: 15/33   500   grass


NOTES: In 1977 the Robin DR.400/180 Regent G-BAJY was listed as being based at a private airstrip near ABERGAVENNY - but was it this one? If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
