Note:  Both of these pictures (2009) were obtained from Google Earth ©

Operated by: Mr Mike Ashmole

Location: S of the A832, just SW of Badavanich, roughly 4nm W of Achnasheen. At the W end of Loch a' Chroisg, in Glen Carron

Period of operation: 2000s possibly 1990s too?

Runway: 04/22   300 x 10/15   rolled gravel

NOTES: Reported in 2005 as the base for G-MAUL. I simply do not believe this as there is no hangar looking at Google Earth and leaving an aircraft exposed to the elements, especially a fabric covered aircraft such as a Maule is surely unwise. I think this is just an occassional destination.

A SINGULAR VISIT

In January 2024 my very good friend Captain (retired) James (Jim) Roland, sent me these pictures of G-DRAM which he landed here on the 6th October 2005.

This was during a fairly short period when the Reims Cessna FR172F Reims Skyrocket G-DRAM, (ex OH-CNS), previously a floatplane, had been fitted with wheels. It was later to become an amphibian.

I have many fond memories of flying in G-DRAM on floats with Jim from Loch Earn. Not least during our joint projects. The first being the A to Z of Scottish Lochs in One Day on the 18th September 2002, and later flying G-DRAM from Loch Earn to Swanage Bay and back, 7th to 9th June 2003. Our small contribution to the so called "anniversary" of powered flight. I provided Flyer magazine with feature articles about both of these projects.

Hello there, I have actually seen a microlight on this airstrip a year or so ago on passing. I have now brought a Mainair Blade weight shift 528 and would love to use the strip from Gairloch. Is Mr Mike Ashmore available for a chat ? Thanks
