Aird Farm

Note: This map only shows a rough position within the UK. If anybody can kindly provide a more exact location, this advice will be most welcome.

AIRD FARM: Temporary aerodrome

Operated by: Mr Freeson

Location: A field 1nm E of Stranraer

Period of operation: 24th August 1929

NOTES: Used as a joy-riding venue by Mr Freeson with Avro 504K G-EBIS. He crashed after hitting telegraph wires towards the end of the day, fortunately without injury to him or his passenger(s).

Without too much doubt, this 'Mr Freeson' was the well known Capt. E E (Ted) Freeson, then a director of North British Aviation based at HOOTON PARK in CHESHIRE. He went on to be a major figure in developing aviation, especially the early airlines in Scotland and his name crops up frequently in listings for that region of the UK within this 'Guide'.
