Anwick flying sites

Note: This map only shows my guesstimate of where the WW1 airfield may have been positioned. If anybody could either kindly confirm this is correct, or provide a more exact location, this advice will be much appreciated.

ANWICK see also OLD MANOR FARM

ANWICK: Military Landing Ground        (Aka RUSKINGTON & SLEAFORD)

Military users: WW1: RFC/RAF  (Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force)

33 [Home Defence] Sqdn    (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 and F.E.2 types)

38 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c and F.E.2b types)

90 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Avro 504K)

Note: It seems that 33 and 38 Squadrons operated here in around 1916, whereas 90 Squadron arrived in 1918.

Location: About 0.75nm NNW of Anwick on the A153, about 3.5nm NE of Sleaford

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919

Site area: 54 acres     485x503

ANWICK: Private airstrip       (Possibly OLD MANOR FARM?)

NOTES: An AAIB report EW/G2007/12/12 concerning a landing accident to the Pegasus Quick G-CEML in December 2007 states that the grass strip was 5m wide by 600m long orientated east to west.

A runway 600m long suggests use by far larger aircraft than microlights, hence the question; could this possibly be OLD MANOR FARM?
