Ashton Park

ASHTON PARK: Temporary flying field?

Location: Just N of the English Electric factory in Preston

NOTES: In his book British Built Aircraft Vol 5 Ron Smith describes the English Electric Wren motorglider first being flown here on the 5th April 1923. It flew here three times before flight  trials moved to LYTHAM SANDS on the 8th April. Knowing this I do now wonder if ASHTON PARK may have been used at other times, perhaps by some of the ‘Flying Circus’ tours for example?
