Avonmouth

Note: This map only gives the position of Avomnouth in the UK. Today the area is a vast industrial and commercial estate, but it would have been very different in WW2. If anbody can kindly offer advice on this subject, this will be most welcome.

AVONMOUTH: Military airstrip

Military user: US Army Air Corps only?

Location: ?

Period of operation: 1944/5 only?

NOTES: There appears to be just enough, (although vague), information to support the existence of this site - presumably in the period prior to the D-Day invasion?

There is one small question, and this concerns Avonmouth being on the County boundary as I’d imagine a possible site would be more likely situated north of the River Avon? And therefore in GLOUCESTERSHIRE rather than in SOMERSET?
