Benington

BENINGTON: Private airstrip (also known as BOTTS FARM)

Benington in the early 2000s
Benington in the early 2000s

Note: Pictures by the author unless specified.

Operated by: 1992: Mr C H A Bott

Location: 4nm ESE of Stevenage, 9nm E of Luton airport

Period of operation: 1970s to -

Runway: 1992: 06/24   440x20    grass

Given as 460mtrs in 2008, and in 2009 described as 460m and approx 18m wide.

According to Google Earth in 2010: 05/23   430   grass

NOTES: Seven aircraft were based here in October 2003. In 1977 it seems only two aircraft were based here: Auster J/1 Autocrat G-AJIU belonging to Mr C H A Bott and Auster J/5P Autocar G-AOBV registered to Mr P E Champney. In 2008 the Zenair CH701, (G-BRDB), built by Don Bowtell was based here. The contribution to aviation made by Don Bowtell needs to be acknowledged, a true enthusiast in so many ways.
