BERKSWELL: Temporary Landing Ground (Diversion)
Note: This item is from my Google Earth © derived database.
This 'venue' was not part of Salmet's original schedule. It was a diversion when attempting to fly from Leamington Spa to Burton-on-Trent on the 26th August, he being forced down by extreme weather, low cloud, mist and very heavy rain. So bad in fact that he delayed his departure until the following day.
Location: Adjacent to Berkswell railway station, just NW of Balsall Common and about 6nm W to WSW of Coventry city centre
Period of operation: 26th and 27th August 1912

Note: The two part article, divided in two to make it easier to read, was published in the Burton Observer and Chronicle on the 29th August 1912.
Note: The sixth item, the newspaper article, was published in the Kenilworth Advertiser on the 31st August.
NOTES: I find it very interesting to read the account above, published in the Burton Observer and Chronicle. Proof indeed that the weather in the UK has not changed one bit, in at least the last two hundred years. I will not deny concerns about climate change, it has always seen substantial changes during the history of this planet. The argument being of course if human activity is accelerating changes for the worse?
The problem being that most of the people concerned about this possible trend, fail to see the bigger picture. Apparently being unaware of the era when it was far warmer, resulting in the Sahara desert being created, or the Ice Age. Far more extreme with no human intervention.
