Location: Just N of Bishops Lydeard, W of the A358, 4.5nm NW of Taunton

Period of operation: 1970s to early 1980s only?

Runway:  02/20   370   grass   (May well have been somewhat longer to the south?)

NOTES: In 1996/7 it seems that G-ATTW, a Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee, was based here. However, as Mr Colin Jones has kindly pointed out, (in June 2022), it was registered to an owner with an address in Bishops Lydeard from 22.12.70 but was declared PWFU, (Permanently Withdrawn From Use), 09.02.82. So this information must, presumably (?), be incorrect. Colin also tells us that G-ATTW crashed here, on the approach to land on the 24th January 1971.

Having had the exact location described to me, by another good friend, I did not believe it. However, after querying it, I have been assured the strip was here. It appears the trees on either side were not there back in the 70s.

It also appears that an AAIB accident report was not filed? Can this be confirmed?
