Blidworth
BLIDWORTH: Relief Landing Ground and Satellite Landing Ground
Note: These three pictures were obtained from my Google Earth © derived database. I have the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust UK to thank for pinpointing this location.
Military users: 25 EFTS [Elementary Flying Training School] (de Havilland DH82A Tiger Moths)
35 SLG (Satellite Landing Ground)
Location: Roughly 4.5nm SE of Mansfield
Period of operation: 1941 to 1942 (Other sources 1940 to 1945)
Runway: Roughly E/W, up to 950m in length?
NOTES: It appears that 35 SLG was under the control of 51 MU at LICHFIELD, and that storage was available for about fifty aircraft. It is reported that Westland Whirlwinds (the aircraft, not the helicopter of course), were in store here. There is one tenuous mention that the site may have been used briefly in 1944?
Note: This very low resolution photo was obtained from the Blidworth & District Historical & Heritage Society.
Rather oddly I think, there appears to be remarkably little information around and the small amount I have managed to cobble together has come from a variety of sources gleaned over many years.
If anybody can kindly offer more advice and information. this will be most welcome.
