CARLTON: Military Landing Ground

Military users:   RFC/RAF   (Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force)

33 [Home Defence] Sqdn  (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2s, F.E.2s, later Bristol F.2B Fighters and finally Avro 504 night fighters)
 

Location: The village of Carlton is on the A1041 about 2.5nm NW of the M62/M18 interchange

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919
 

Site area: 39 acres    411 x 384
 

NOTES: This was a Night Landing Ground only for 33 Sqdn
