Carr Field

Note: This map only shows my rough estimate of where this site may have been. If anybody can kindly offer advice on this, it will be most welcome.

CARR FIELD: Temporary landing site, possibly to test for a civil regional airport location?

Location: On Biggar Bank on Walney Island, about 2.5nm SW of Barrow-in-Furness town centre

NOTES: It appears that in April 1928 Vickers were granted permission to land a Bristol aircraft at Carr Field on Biggar Bank and it is thought this might well be part of a survey by Vickers to establish a regional airport here. It must of course be wondered why Vickers would have used a Bristol type, which seems odd to say the least. But, that seems to be the story.
