Cathcart

Note: This map gives only the position of Cathcart within the UK. If anybody can provide a more exact location, this advice will be most welcome.

CATHCART: Ad hoc landing ground

Operated by: Mr James Weir/Cierva Company

Location: In/near Cathcart roughly 2nm S of Glasgow city centre

Period of operation: 1930s only?

NOTES: During one period, presumably during the 1930s, Mr Weir who was the Chairman of the Cierva company used to regularly commute using a Cierva Autogiro from his home at Dalrymple, SSE of Ayr, using the company sports ground alongside the offices.

Cathcart seems to lie very close to the County boundary with LANARKSHIRE so I’m taking a guess it was actually in RENFREWSHIRE?
