Chase Farm

CHASE FARM: Private airstrip    (Microlights only?)

Location: 1nm N of A127, in/near Dunton, roughly 4.5nm WNW of Basildon town centre

Period of operation: 1980s to -

NOTES:  I will readily admit to being utterley discombobulated here, and in desperate need of help. It seems to me probable that this airstrip might well be also known as LAINDON? Without any doubt, looking at Google Earth, an airstrip exists in the location given on Google Earth. But, what is it? If anybody can kindly offer advice this will be most welcome as this area has a few airstrips. Answer = LITTLE BURSTEAD.

In producing this 'Guide' this kind of situation does occur from time to time. Two or more more airstrips can be seen in close proximity - but, which is which, and what should each be labelled as?

In June 2020 I was kindly contacted by Mr Trevor Sexton who believed that CHASE FARM and LITTLE BURSTEAD were the same place. The difference being that the later runway had/has a different orientation. He tells us that the original runway was E/W. "The land owners son was killed in a flying incident so he became disillusioned with flying. This runway was dug up. Years later another runway was set up for microlights." This is still in use with a couple of microlights based here.

To signify the difference I shall keep both listings.
