CHELWOOD: Balloon launching site

Location: Roughly 7nm ESE of BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

NOTES: Presumably a regularly used launch site?

The info source was AAIB report EW/C2011/0101 concerning the Cameron 0-120 hot air balloon G-BVXF which was being used for an ascent to 6,000 metres amsl as part of a BBAC Gold Badge award. This altitude was reached, in fact exceeded, but something went terribly wrong in the descent when the balloon envelope collapsed, plunging the hapless crew of two onto a bowling green in Midsomer Norton with fatal consequences.
