Military user: RAF Flying Training Command          21 Group

AFU  (Advanced Flying Unit)

 

Location: E of A41, 2 to 3nm NNW of Newport

Period of operation: 1941 to late 1980s only?

 

Runways: All-over grass airfield     N/S   1097           E/W   1051

 

NOTES: Still listed in 1985 as available for use by RAF TERNHILL and, (later?) as a RLG (Relief Landing Ground) for RAF SHAWBURY.


THE MOTH TOUR
For the 2005 DH Moth Tour CHETWYND was one of the ‘landing points’. Starting at WHITE WALTHAM the itinerary was UPAVON, DUNKESWELL, EAGLESCOTT, YEOVIL, SHOBDON, CHETWYND, SEALAND, DERBY, HUCKNALL and LEICESTER.
