A Slingsby T.67 monument

Note: This picture, taken by the author, shows a most unusual feature at an airfield in the UK. An aircraft displayed as a sort of monument at the junction of the two runways. All pictures by the author unless specified.

Operated by: 2001: Chiltern Park Microlight Club

Location: W of A4074, on Icknield Farm, in/near Ipsden, roughly 2.5nm SSE of Wallingford

Period of operation: 1988 to September 2021

Runway: Early on,    04/22   500x20   grass

By 2008 they had two runways: 14/32   620  grass            03/21   770   grass

NOTES: On the 29th August 2009 CHILTERN PARK was having an Open-Day and Fly-In to celebrate their 21st anniversary. So that seems to solve when this airfield first opened?

In late 2011 it was announced the London Parachute School had moved here from LEWKNOR.

A PERSONAL MEMORY

On the 5th May 2008, two of my flying friends, Geoff Cowell and Gordon Brown and I, all from the Lion Flying Group based at ELSTREE, landed here on the way back from a Fly-In at BOLT HEAD in DEVON. On the way we'd also landed at DUNKESWELL and OLD SARUM. I will always maintain that a light touring aircraft, such as the high-wing 172, really is a superb way to tour around our lovely country. In the picture Geoff and Gordon are standing by November Uniform presumably discussing our route back to ELSTREE.

This really is a most friendly place to visit and the airfield is set in the glorious countryside just west of the Chiltern Hills.
