Chilton Lodge

CHILTON LODGE: Temporary private airstrip

Location: N of Hungerford

NOTES: It appears that the prototype Chilton DW.1 G-AESV first flew from here on the 16th April 1937 and when it was restored many years later it was flown in to revisit its birthplace.

This photograph in the February 2005 issue of Popular Flying magazine proves the point.

Most of the subsequent test flying (it appears) of the four Chiltons built, G-AESV, G-AESZ, G-AFGH and G-AFGI took place from HIGH TREES near Marlborough in WILTSHIRE.
