Another good example of a WW2 airfield that can still be clearly seen some seventy years later.

12 OTU [Operational Training Unit] (Vickers Wellingtons)
1517 BAT Flt (Airspeed Oxfords)
Location: 6nm NNE of Banbury, just N and NNW of Chipping Warden
Note: In WW2 this airfield was in OXFORDSHIRE, but is now in NORTHAMPTONSHIRE .
Period of operation: 1941 to 1946 Reopened in 1952 until ?
Runways: WW2: 13/31 1005x46 hard 07/25 1463x46 hard
01/19 1280x46 hard
NOTES: Hard standings were available for thirty heavy bombers. The airfield was mainly engaged in operational training but was also a storage centre and RLG (Relief Landing Ground)
Used by Wellingtons and Oxfords for operational training but later used as a storage centre for Horsa gliders.
12 OTU took part in many bombing operations including taking part in the first 1000 bomber raid over Germany in January 1942.
