Note:  All four of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©

Operated by: Brian Wells in conjunction with Leicestershire Microlight Aero Club from 1979 to 1983?

Location: Just N of Claybrooke Magna village, E of the Foss Way, about 4.5nm SE of Hinkley town centre

Period of operation: 1979 to 2015

Runway:  1999:   02/20   720   grass

                2011:   02/20   270   grass

NOTES:  If the dating on Google Earth can be relied upon(?), the runway was shortened in 2011. By 2016 no evidence of this airstrip can be seen.

A picture in Roy Bonsors excellent book ‘Aviation in Leicester and Rutland’ presumably taken circa 1980 shows five light aircraft here. One I can’t positively identify although I think it’s a Grumman AA-5 type , two are Cessna 150/152 types, another is a Cessna 182 and the fifth is the quite rare Helio Courier STOL type, G-ARLD.
