Clipston

CLIPSTON: Military Landing Ground (also known as MARKET HARBOROUGH)

Military user: RFC/RAF  (Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force)

75 [Home Defence] Sqdn     (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c, B.E.2e & F.E.2b types)

Location: Just S of Great Oxendon village, 2.5nm SW of Market Harborough

Period of operation: 1916 to 1918

NOTES: I know I keep repeating this message but it really is important. To learn much, much more about the often fascinating history many of these WW1 airfields you really should join the Cross & Cockade Aviation Historical Society - it doesn’t cost much. Or the Airfield Research Group of course.

CLIPSTON opened in December 1916. In other words it was barely operational in 1916.
