Cockfosters

Note: This map only gives the position of Cockfosters within the UK. If anybody can kindly provide a more exact location, this advice will be most welcome.

COCKFOSTERS:  Temporary aerodrome

Operated by: The Cornwall Aviation Company

Picture of G-EBNR taking off in June 1929

Note: This picture by Mrs D. MacDonald was scanned from the excellent book 'Cornwall Aviation Company'; by Ted Chapman published in 1979.

The caption reads: "G-EBNR takes off in a cloud of castor oil fumes at Cockfosters, London, on June 26th, 1929. Captain Philips and Captain Cameron gave free flights to certain lucky readers of the Barnet Press including Mrs. D. MacDonald who took this photograph. The newspaper devoted several columns to comments from passengers on their experiences and the newsagents sold out of all editions."

My note: I think these 'fumes' were actually dust thrown up in the propwash.

Location: ?

Period of operation:  26th June 1929 only?  It appears that CAC visited COCKFOSTERS in 1928, 1929 and 1930.
