Codford St Mary

Note: This map only shows the position of Codford St Mary within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer advice regarding a more exact location for this airstrip location, this will be most welcome.

CODFORD St MARY: Military airstrip/airfield   (Aka CODFORD)

Military user: US First Army ‘XIX’ Corps, 119th & 228th Field Artillery Groups. 203rd, 228th, 792nd, 963rd and 967th Field Artillery Battalions

Location: Codford St Mary village is N of the A36, roughly 6nm SE of Warminster?

Period of operation: 1944/5 only?

NOTES: It appears that fourteen Piper L-4 Grasshoppers were based here.

It seems the colloquial name the US Army used for their strips like this was ‘Cub Strips’.
