Military users:

WW2
RAF Fighter Command            11 Group     (Advanced Landing Ground)

306 & 315 (Polish) Sqdns    (North American P-51 Mustangs)

Location: 6nm SSW of Horsham, just SE of Coolham village

Period of operation:  1944 only

Runways:  WW2  Steel matting: 05/23   1097   grass           12/30   1371   grass

NOTES: Presumably in WW2 this ‘temporary’ airfield was set up as part of the D-Day programme. It is obvious the RAF didn’t intend hanging around as it was listed as being a ‘tented camp’ with 5 Blister hangers.

We have Mr David Elliott to thank for this information. He also tells us that although Mr and Mrs Grace worked on their two-seat Spitfire at Falconers Farm, just to the S/SW of this location, (in the 1980s at least), there is no evidence that they actually flew it from there.
