Coombers Farm

Note: I have been unable to trace a COOMBERS FARM within the Gatwick Zone, so have provided the location of GATWICK instead, to give a very rough idea of the position within the UK. Hardly satisfactory of course. If anybody can kindly help out, the advice will be most welcome.

COOMBERS FARM: Private airstrip

NOTES: Owned by John Hayden and operated in the early 1970s , (occasionally despite his wanting to fly more often), by Mike Hallam. Situated in the GATWICK ZONE Mike had to telephone for permission to fly his Nord NC854S G-BAUZ, (the only aircraft based here), as initially it had  no radio fitted.

Having installed a radio the situation changed enormously - so much so that on one occasion Mike was invited to perform a low level fly-past at GATWICK so the ATC bods could see what a Nord NC854S looked like! With a very short and N/S orientated runway involving several other problems, Mike invariably stayed grounded until giving up and moving to SNOWERHILL FARM near Betchworth.
