Cornton Farm

Note: This map show the position of Wester Cornton Farm, which might well be misleading. However, it is the only listing in the area which includes the name; 'Cornton Farm'. If anybody can kindly offer advice on this subject, it will be much appreciated.

CORNTON FARM: Early experimental flying site

NOTES: It seems the Barnwell brothers made their first attempt at flying here, (near CAUSEWAYHEAD), in December 1908 with an underpowered aircraft. By July 1909 they succeeded in building a machine which lifted off so quickly it stalled. However, records don’t confirm this flight attempt was held at CORNTON FARM so I’ll list it under the more general CAUSEWAYHEAD location.

It is of course entirely possible that CORNTON FARM and CAUSEWAYHEAD were one and the same site? However, during my research I have found it is better to not reach such easy conclusions.
