Operated by: East Midlands Helicopters

Flying club/school: East Midlands Helicopters

Location: Oaklands, Loughborough Road, Costock. The village of Costock is on the A60 roughly halfway between Loughborough and West Bridgford on the southern outskirts of Nottingham

NOTES: The establishment of this enterprise at COSTOCK appears to have been in the early 1990s? In 2005 they were reported to be operating two Robinson R22s, one Robinson R44, two Bell 206 types and one Aerospatiale AS-355.

In the early years of the 21st century dual training, (flying with an instructor), on fixed wing aircraft in the UK typically varied across the regions but very roughly £100 to £150 per hour was the going rate for a very basic type two-seater aircraft and you could pretty much double that for training on a “simple” twin-engine type.

Helicopters have always been more expensive of course and the following dual training rates quoted by East Midlands Helicopters (circa 2005) probably reflect an average cost for the UK. The R22s were £246.75/hr, the R44 £411.25/hr, the Bell 206 £646.25/hr and the rates for the AS-355 were £1057.50/hr.
