Cranleigh flying sites

Note:  This map only shows an area roughly 0.5nm south of Vachery Pond.

CRANLEIGH see also RYDINGHURST FARM

CRANLEIGH: Private airstrip

Location: About 2nm E of DUNSFOLD and 0.5nm S of Vachery Pond

Period of operation: ?

NOTES: Long grass runway and hangar reported seen here.

A long search of Google Earth failed to find any evidence of this. However, I think these references are to BAYNARD'S PARK which is SE of Vachery Pond.

The problem being that in researching this 'Guide' I cannot take this for granted. Private airstrips crop up nearly everywhere in England especially, sometimes only used for a year or two. Plus of course many light aircraft and microlights do not need a prepared strip - just a suitably level field.

If anybody familiar with the area can offer advice, this will be most welcome.

Hi, Rydinghurst farm was owned by my uncle. He sold the farm 20 years ago and the name was changed. I dont know the name now but the airstrip is still there. Look for pepperbox lane as the grass runway crosses the lane.
