CRAWLEY: Military Landing Ground
Military user: RFC (Royal Flying Corps)
78 [Home Defence] Sqdn (Royal Aircraft Factory BE.2 & BE.12 types)
Location: Just NE of the town centre, more or less in the area known as Three Bridges
Period of operation: 1917
NOTES: It appears that this Landing Ground was used in January and February 1917 only. I wonder why? Perhaps because the ‘normal’ Landing Ground was waterlogged? Since making this comment, it would now appear that 78 Squadron's main base was HARRIETSHAM in KENT, so this seems an unlikely answer?
