Diss flying sites
Note: This map only shows the position of Diss within the UK.
DISS: Temporary landing ground?
NOTES: In 1928 the Suffolk and Eastern Counties Aeroplane Club arranged to visit to DISS. Does anybody now know the location they used. It must be pointed out that Diss is on the border of NORFOLK and SUFFOLK, so they may well have used a field that actually was in SUFFOLK?
DISS: Temporary heliport
Operated by: BEA (British European Airways)
Location: Presumably N of Diss?
Period of operation: June to September 1948
NOTES: If anybody can kindly offer advice as to the location of this heliport, this will be much appreciated.
DISS: Private airstrip
NOTES: During Flying For Fun 2006 Mr Al Mathie, flying the Crosby BA-4B G-AYFV, booked in flying from DISS. For the purposes of this project this is enough information to record the existence of a private strip in this vicinity. Job done. It would be very nice to record the length, width and orientation of the strip, even a more precise geographical location, but none of this is required for this ‘Guide’.
