Drymen

DRYMEN: Gliding Site

NOTES: Listed in 1975. In/near Drymen on the A811, E of Loch Lomond, about 10nm NNE of Dumbarton.

Looking up aerial activity in this area it appears that a lot has been going on. I trust I am correct in thinking that hang-gliding and paragliding has been a regular feature of this site in recent years?

Any advice on this will be much appreciated.

SOMETHING OF A MYSTERY?

In 2023 Mr Graham Frost sent me this first picture, rather fuzzy from Google Street View © dated April 2009. Windsocks are erected in many sites of course, from industrial complexes, sewerage farms and even on motorways. This example is much larger and similar to those found on aerodromes. Situated just S of Drymen village and just W of the A811, we have no idea why it was there? Or for how long?

NOTES:  If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be most welcome.

The main purpose of this 'Guide' is to record, as far as possible, flying sites within the U.K. Turns out to be often quite a difficult task, and of course, on the whole quite impossible. But at least a start has been made.
