Easington

EASINGTON: Military Landing Ground           (also known as SEAHAM HARBOUR)

Military users: RFC/RAF     (Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force)

36 [Home Defence] Sqdn

Note: During WW1 36 Squadron flew the Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c, B.E.12 and F.E.2b. Plus the Armstrong-Whitworth F.K.8, Avro 504K, Bristol Scout and Bristol F2B Fighter, and the Sopwith Pup. I have no idea if all these types made an appearance here, but perhaps somebody can kindly offer advice?

Location: Easington village is on the B1432 and B1283 just E of the A19 and Inm mile or so N of Peterlee. The Landing Ground appears to have been situated between Easington and Peterlee, on what is now the northern part of the North West Industrial Estate

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919

Site area: 39 acres      549 x 320
