East Leys Farm

Note: This map should pretty much pin-point the site within the UK.

NOTE:  EAST LEYS FARM is also the site for SKYDIVE GB, listed as GRINDALE to avoid confusion. I doubt that exactly the same location has been used?
Aka;  BRIDLINGTON

Used by:  Sir Alan Cobham during his 1929 Tour

Operated by: Alan Cobham’s 1932 National Aviation Day UK Display Tour on the 6th July, Cobham’s 1933 No.2 Tour on the 4th August, and the British Empire Air Display 1936 Tour on the 18th June 1936

Location: Nr Grindale, 4nm NW of Bridlington

Period of operation: 8th July 1929, 6th July 1932, 4th August 1933, 18th June 1936

NOTES: The 29th venue for Sir Alan Cobham’s 1929 Municipal Aerodrome Campaign. This Tour started in May and ended in October with one hundred and seven towns and cities planned to be visited. Mostly in England but with two venues in Wales and eight in Scotland. In the end after various problems and two crashes, he nevertheless visited 97 venues. A truly magnificent achievement.

Without any doubt this Tour encouraged the establishment of several aerodromes/regional airports. But not in Bridlington.

This location seems to be very close to the later RAF BRIDLINGTON site.
