East Parley
EAST PARLEY: Temporary aerodrome
Note: These two maps and the picture were kindly provided by Mr Michael T Holder
Operated by: Sir Alan Cobham's National Aviation Day display tour
Location: On the west side and within the boundary of BOURNEMOUTH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Period of operation: 22nd August 1933
NOTES: It is important to remember that venues such as this, even if used for just one day, due the amount of aircraft displaying and the carriage of passengers and amount of spectators - had to be officially licensed aerodromes.
The 1933 tours were in two parts - No.1 Tour and No.2 Tour, both starting on the 14th April. The No.1 Tour at CENTRAL PARK, Dagenham in ESSEX, and in the same County, the No.2 Tour commenced at HOLT FARM, Ashingdon Road, Southend. Displaying over much of the mainland in the British Isles, the No.1 Tour visited 116 venues and the No.2 Tour 151 venues. The difference being that the No.1 Tour had many more two-day displays planned.
It is interesting to note that Cobham, himself a renowned work-a-holic, did not expect anybody in his teams of pilots and ground crew to have one day off between the 14th of April and the 8th October. Probably thinking they have plenty of time to rest and recuperate before the next season in 1934.
