East Strand Beach





EAST STRAND BEACH & WHITE ROCKS: Paragliding or ridge soaring site
 

Location: Near Portrush, County Antrim

Period of operation: 2006 only?

At EAST STRAND BEACH there is a sand dune approximately 100ft high, usually used when the wind was above 12mph. The WHITE ROCKS site is on a line of cliffs, about 240m from the western end of the cliffs, about 140ft high and used in lighter winds. According to the AAIB report only three paraglider pilots started using this site in July 2006, and, in early September 2006 one of them was involved in a fatal accident. The EAST STRAND BEACH site is about 200m west of the cliff end.
