East Wolves Farm

EAST WOLVES FARM: Private airstrip

Aerial view 2001

Note:  This picture was obtained from Google Earth ©

Location: Just E of the A24 and Ashington

Period of operation: 2000s perhaps?

Runways:   18/36   325   grass  (East)        18/36   225   grass   (West)

(Both roughly just over four metres wide, with a thin strip seperating the two).

NOTES:  I am of course assuming that I have the correct 'EAST WOLVES FARM' airstrip?

If so, to my eyes, this airstrip which has a most unusual appearance, was clearly laid out by somebody who really knows their stuff. Especially so as the maximum advantage has been taken within a fairly small area. For example the longer runway on the east side of the two narrow strips, has a 'feeder lane' added at the northern end branching off towards the north east.

This adding a significant safety advantage when taking off towards the south. For landing it appears that the runway width is more than doubled - highly desirable in crosswind conditions.
