ELFORD: Military aerodrome     (also known as SEAHOUSES)

Military users: RFC/RAF  (Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force) 

77 [Home Defence] Sqdn 1917 to 1919    (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 and B.E.12)

RAF Marine Operations Station

256 Sqdn 1918 to 1919   (Airco DH.6)

 

Location: SW of New Shoreston, in/near Elford, about 1.5nm WSW of Seahouses, 11nm N of Alnwick

Period of operation: 1917 to 1919 (some say from 1916)
 

Site area: 92 acres     731 x 503    (Site expanded during operation)

 

NOTES: Used as a Day & Night Landing Ground by 77 Sqdn.

A photo of this aerodrome has just turned up on FB.I have asked for permission to copy it.Not brilliant but good enough ,Shows 9 aircraft and some temp hangars(arial shot)
