Fairchildes House
FAIRCHILDES HOUSE: Military airstrip
Location: Just E of Featherbed Lane, S of New Addington
Period of operation: WW2 only?
NOTES: Used by 661 Squadron Austers from February 1944 to June 1944.
Some time ago I made this comment: "A search for information about Fairchildes House in this locality drew a blank. I did find a mention of the Fairchildes Estate but this appears to have been swallowed up by urban expansion since WW2. I chose this position because of Fairchildes Avenue - which might be a clue of sorts. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome."
In May 2020 I was kindly contacted by Michael Holder, (see 'Comment' below), and the map and location has now been ammended.
