Note:  All four of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©

Location:  Just S of the A120, about 1nm N of Felsted village and 3nm E of Great Dunmow town centre

Period of operation:  1990s (?) to -

Landing area:  Quite unusually there is no visible strip here, but all the generally available runs are in a roughly SW/NE direction.

In 2000 the longest run was:      04/22   430   grass

By 2006 the longest run was:     04/22   510   grass

NOTES:  I have Mr Trevor Sexton to thank for making me look into this again. I originally had a site just to the south listed as FELSTEAD, (Aka SEWARDS HALL FARM). Please always remember that I have to rely on a whole variety of sources to produce this 'Guide', and quite often these can result in confusion.

The main clue came from Trevor mentioning that the Europa XS G-KDCC was based here at one time. And indeed, the owner of G-KDCC, whose address was/is Sewards Hall Farm, which is nearby, owned this aircraft from 2005 until 2011.

This rather remarkable Google Earth © picture, dated 2009, shows two aircraft flying in the near vicinity. Both of which look like Europa types. To date I have not been able to determine if G-KDCC was a mono-wheel version, but I suspect it was? If so, due to the design being tricky in crosswinds, it would make complete sense not to have a single strip. Being able to land and take-off as near as possible into wind is by far the preferred option.

Plus, with published take-off and landing distances both in the order of 180 metres, clearly this airfield would enable operations of the type in most conditions.

Just one other observation, the hangar was enlarged around 2010, presumably to accommodate extra aircraft? As always, any advice will be much appreciated.
