Finedon flying sites

Note: This map only shows the location of Finedon village within the UK.

FINEDON: Military Landing Ground

Military user: RFC  (Royal Flying Corps)

75 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory BE.2c, BE.2e and possibly, later, FE.2b types)

Location: In/near Finedon on the A6/A510 junction, about 5nm SE of Kettering town centre

Period of operation: 1917

NOTES: Used as a 2nd grade Night Landing Ground only it seems from January to July 1917.

It appears that, as was so often the case for so many  'Home Defence' squadrons, their efforts were an utter waste of time and money. But of course, no other establishment in the UK can waste resources on the scale the military air, sea and land services can. Indeed. this seems their main aim justifying their existence in most respects; having to fight a war here or there being an inconvenience, much objected to.

FINEDON: Temporary aerodrome?

NOTES: On the 26th May 1933 Sir Alan Cobham’s No.1 Tour performed in/near Finedon. Did they perhaps use the WW1 site listed above?
