SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT?
On a quick visit in August 2017 I noticed that a Westland/Sikorsky S.61 was on display as a 'Gate Guardian', visible from the A32. I made a polite request to take a picture of it, but security staff informed me that there was no way this could be achieved. And indeed not even visitors or even security staff were allowed to take pictures either.
It does make me wonder; why put an old redundant aircraft on display, if you don't want people to admire it and take pictures?
I have visited many operational RAF airfields over the years, and a polite request (with passport) to photograph a 'gate guardian' has always been granted. Except for RAF MARHAM who were on a top rated security condition - so that is obviously understandable.
