Fleetwood

Note: This map only gives the position of Fleetwood town within the UK.

FLEETWOOD: Temporary aerodrome(s)?

Operated by: Various “Flying Circus” operators certainly, but surely somebody was operating ‘joy-rides’ for at least many of the inter-war summer seasons?

A few years ago I made the note: "I’ll bet the A V Roe Co used this location during 1919/20 at least". In 2010 I found this suspicion confirmed by Ron Smith in his book British Built Aircraft Vol.5.

Location: The Foreshore (In all cases where FLEETWOOD is listed as a venue?)

Period of operation: 1919 to 1932?

Runways: Presumably sand being a beach venue?

NOTES: Venue for CD Barnard Air Tours in June 1931.

According to the 1932 itinerary for Alan Cobham’s National Aviation Day on the 28th June at this venue which was listed as being, ‘The Foreshore, Fleetwood, Whalley’. The problem I have here is that the only Whalley I know of is about 27 miles ESE inland from Fleetwood. Perhaps the Whalley District Council area included Fleetwod in those days?
