Friday Wood

FRIDAY WOOD: Military Landing Ground    (Aka BERECHURCH)

Aerial view 2018

Note:  This picture was obtained from Google Earth ©

Location: In/near Berechurch, (to be identified?)

NOTES: Used by 2 Sqdn Audaxes from the late 1920s to the late 1930s it seems.

I have to admit to really struggling here. The only 'Berechurch' references I can find in Essex are Berechurch Hall Road, south of Colchester. Also interesting though is Berechurch Hall Camp (Army) situated just to the south of this road - so maybe these are clues?

Also, this Squadron (No.2), was employed on Army Cooperation work during this period. Perhaps another clue? This said I also found a reference to Friday Wood Green in this area, which is just to the east of the Camp. Putting two and two together, (and possibly making five), it all seems to add up?

If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.
