Glidden Farm
GLIDDEN FARM: Microlight strip and/or private airstrip
Note: The aerial view was obtained from Google Earth ©
Location: Near Hambledon which is W of the B2150, roughly 3 to 4nm NW to NNW of Waterlooville
NOTES: This is all very odd. Various sources claim there was an airstrip in this area. I can see no obvious sign of one looking back 20 years on Google Earth. And indeed one microlight forum appears to insist there never was one. But, if so, why does the mention keep cropping up?
This said, why was the location featured on CAA aviation charts? The Google Earth picture above does suggest evidence of an airstrip. And, what is that curious hard standing feature on the south side of the woods? Looking ideal for building a hangar?
Our aviation history is liberally peppered with so many well intentioned projects that failed almost from the start. Perhaps this was yet another example?
If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome. And of course, it is part and parcel of the purpose of this 'Guide' to raise such questions.
