Gooderstone flying sites

Note: This map only shows the position of Gooderstone village within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer more information on either or both of these sites, the advice will be most welcome.

GOODERSTONE: Military Landing Ground (Also known as WARREN FARM)

Military users: RFC (Royal Flying Corps & RAF (Royal Air Force), later Night Landing Ground

51 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 and B.E.12 types. Later Avro 504Ks)
Note: It appears that the Avro 504Ks were used for night flying instruction. This said, the B.E.2 and B.E.12 types were certainly used operationally by the RFC (Royal Flying Corps) for night interceptor duties in WW1 - not usually- but occassionally with spectacular results, especially again German airships.

Location: In/near Gooderstone, a village 5.5nm SW of Swaffham

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919

Site area: 65 acres    640 x 411

GOODERSTONE: Private airstrip

Operated by: Mr B J Knights

Location: In/near Gooderstone, W of the A1065, 2nm WSW of Cockley Clay, 5nm SW of Swaffham

Period of operation: 1970s & 1980s only?

NOTES: In the mid 1970s it seems the M.S.893 Rallye Commodore G-AVTV was the only aircraft based here but apparently registered to a Mr A Lister.
