Operated by: Mr Denys Corbett Wilson

Location: Goodwick is about 1nm NW of Fishguard    (See local area picture above)

NOTES: It appears that Mr Denys Corbett Wilson, (Pilots Certificate No.315), was the first person to successfully fly in a powered aircraft from the mainland of Britain to Ireland - on the 22nd April 1912!

At least one other attempt was previously made by another pilot but he failed, (or rather his aeroplane did!), to climb above the cliffs upon reaching Ireland and he had to ditch in the sea.

In 2012, to mark the centenary, a memorial in the form of an information board was erected at the roadside, adjacent to the field used.

As pointed out elsewhere in this 'Guide' many early aeroplanes had very marginal performance and often could barely fly much above sea level.
