Goswick Sands

Note: This map only gives a rough location as to where G-BBTZ actually landed.

GOSWICK SANDS: Emergency landing site

Location: On Holy Island

NOTES: Info source AAIB report EW/G2006/03/07. I think this is well worth listing for two reasons.

Firstly because today landing on beaches in and around the UK is becoming increasingly rare, with only a few sites still in regular or often just occasional use. A few decades ago, especially prior to WW2, beaches and ‘sands’ were viewed as being ideal and numerous locations were regularly used even by airliners of that time.

The second reason being that unlike most forced landings these days, this one was totally successful. And indeed, the CFI of this flying school later flew this aeroplane, (Cessna F150L G-BBTZ), from the metalled causeway linking Holy Island to the mainland. Which is really something to have in your log book.
