Hackness

Note:  This map only shows the position of Hackness village within the UK.

HACKNESS: Military airstrip   (also known as SILPHO?)

Location: Roughly 2nm WNW of Scalby

NOTES: Apparently used by AOP Austers…during WW2? Could SILPHO have been another strip? It seems a bit unlikely as Silpho village is just over a mile N of Hackness village.

As you might imagine in researching this 'Guide' for over twenty years, quite often all I have come across is a scant mention. As often as not, as in this case, I have no idea if the information is correct or not. But, the fact that I have found a published record clearly deserves a listing.

All attempts to try and find out more have failed miserably. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.
