Harling Road

Note: This map only gives my estimation of the airfield location. Confirmation will be much appreciated.

HARLING ROAD: Military aerodrome (aka ROUDHAM)

Military users: WW1: RFC/RAF    Home Defence Flight Station.

Night Landing Ground  (1916 to 1919)

51 [Home Defence] Sqdn    (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2s, B.E.12s & Avro 504Ks)

75 [Home Defence] Sqdn   (Royal Aircraft Factory F.E.2b)

RFC/RAF Training Squadron Station and Training Depot Station, RFC/RAF (1917 to 1920)

Location: Roudham Road/Harling Road, therefore W of East Harling presumably next to the B1111

Period of operation: WW1+: 1916 to 1920.  Reactivated briefly for use in WW2

Site area: WW1: 245 acres      1006 x 1006

Runways: WW2: Unknown?

NOTES: A WW1 hangar apparently still survives at this former WW1 TSS and TDS site.

I found some info that HARLING ROAD was used by C-47s as a base for supply drops after D-Day in 1944. Can this be confirmed and is anything else known?
