Harras Moor

HARRAS MOOR: Civil aerodrome      (Aka HARRAS DYKE)

For many years I had this location listed as a temporary aerodrome, until Mr Michael T Holder, a great friend of this 'Guide' sent me this information in September 2021:

Note:  The notice in Flight magazine was published on the 27th January 1921.

Used by: Capt H B Elwell in October 1920

Location: 2nm E of Whitehaven

Period of operation:  1920 provisionally before the aerodrome was established.

NOTES: It appears that Capt Elwell operated the  DH.6 G-EAQY for 'joy-ride' purposes and operated here from around the 18th October 1920, for about ten days.
